Overview
The Dual Franka FR3 is a composed bimanual platform pairing two Franka Research 3 arms on a shared stationary frame. Each FR3 provides 7 degrees of freedom, integrated joint torque sensors, and impedance/compliance control, exposed for real-time research via the Franka Control Interface (FCI), libfranka, and franka_ros/franka_ros2. The configuration is widely used in robot-learning labs for force-aware imitation learning and precise bimanual teleoperation (e.g. OpenTeach-style pipelines). It is not a single vendor SKU but a recognized research rig built from two catalog FR3 arms.
Highlights
- Composed dual: 2x 7-DoF Franka Research 3 (FR3) arms on a shared stationary frame
- Integrated joint torque sensing with impedance/compliance control on every axis — suited to force-aware imitation learning
- Real-time control via Franka Control Interface (FCI) + libfranka + franka_ros/franka_ros2
- Per-arm: 855 mm reach, <±0.1 mm repeatability, 3 kg payload
- Used in research for precise bimanual teleoperation (OpenTeach) and contact-rich manipulation
- Approximate build cost 60,000+ USD (two FR3 arms plus frame; arms sold separately by Franka)
